Do not improvise high-risk placement. Avoid placing electrodes across the front of the neck, across the chest, on the head, over broken skin or in other locations prohibited by the device instructions.

How strong should TENS stimulation feel?

The stimulation should usually feel distinct but comfortable. Increasing the intensity does not automatically make treatment more effective, and painful stimulation is not the goal.

Start low: Begin at a low intensity and increase gradually according to the device instructions.
Avoid painful stimulation: Reduce intensity if the sensation becomes sharp, burning or unpleasant.
